Introduction

...

HALO is a standardized technology framework that enables approved third-party applications to seamlessly “plug and play” into any authorized clinical applications, such as EMRs with the ability to coordinate their activities with other POC applications

HALO (SMART) applications may utilize data from multiple sources, including PoC solutions and jurisdictional repositories, pull it into a single view in a Web Application, enabling care provider access to a full suite of digital health tools.  If PoC Solutions implement the HALO Framework, they can integrate with any SMART Application that supports the HALO Framework (a one-time effort that could potentially be done relatively quickly by vendors and PTIs) while Infoway continues to drive data content and exchange standards.

Simplistically, HALO will enable EMRs to launch different approved ‘Apps’, such as an eReferral, or an App that enables viewing data about a patient from a jurisdictional system. Apps should not require multiple sign ins by the physician and should reduce data entry required by physicians by passing along patient and provider context (at minimum).
