Primary Health Care General Notes
In order to facilitate standardization of data at the Primary Healthcare (PHC) point of service (PoS), as well as interoperability and health system use, the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) in collaboration with jurisdictions and Canada Health Infoway Inc. (Infoway), led the development of the Draft Primary Health Care Electronic Medical Record Content Standard (PHC EMR CS).
The Primary Health Care Electronic Medical Record Content Standard (PHC EMR CS) was updated to v3.0, which includes a priority subset (from 106 to 45 data elements) and associated clinician-friendly pick-lists. The intent of the standard is to increase the availability of structured coded data in EMRs and support priority information needs at the practice and health system levels.
To support this Content Standard, Infoway continues to revise the PHC subsets where appropriate.
