Jira Issue Tracking

Jira is a proprietary product that allows specification feedback and other input to be logged and tracked. Canada Health Infoway (Infoway) uses Jira to support standards specification feedback by providing a structured and collaborative environment to managing the feedback lifecycle. Leveraging the features in JIRA can effectively streamline the standards specification feedback process, enhance collaboration among stakeholders, and provide a centralized platform for managing and tracking feedback from our stakeholder community (working groups) outside of balloting cycles. Standards organizations such as HL7 continue to use this tool to support standards development.

Specification Feedback

Infoway is introducing Jira as the official mechanism for providing feedback on the pan-Canadian Interoperability Specifications in the following state:

  • CI Build (working build of the specifications)
  • Published specifications

JIRA issue tracking will not replace the ballot review/submission processes.

Each specification has its own feedback project and the ones currently defined are:

  • Patient Summaries
  • eReferral – eConsult
  • CA:FeX
  • CA Core+

More projects will be added as additional specification are developed.

Submitting Feedback

An essential part of the standards development process is effectively receiving and managing feedback from the community. We openly invite constructive feedback from anyone willing to contribute, who is an active member of a working group. Feedback might be suggesting a feature, pointing out a place where a specification is unclear or over-restrictive, identifying a spelling or grammar issue or suggesting that an entire area needs to be rethought.  Note that for balloting feedback specifically, there is a separate process in place, described here.

Before Submitting

To submit feedback, you must register as a user on Infoway’s InfoCentral, be an active member of a working group, and have granted access to the JIRA projects.

  • To register on the InfoCentral website, go to: https://infocentral.infoway-inforoute.ca. Click on the Register link and follow the instructions to create an account.
  • Once registered in InfoCentral, and a working group, you can request access to Jira directly in a working group meeting, or via a forum post in the working group space.
  • To access Jira, go to: https://informs.infoway-inforoute.ca (Note: this link will only work if you have been granted access to JIRA).

Submitters will receive automatic notifications when their submissions receive comments or reach milestones during the review process. They also may receive inquiries for clarification regarding their feedback. Additionally, they may add comments to feedback submitted by others.

Before submitting feedback, users are encouraged to browse through previously submitted feedback to see if the topic has already been discussed. Searching the appropriate forum is also recommended for additional helpful information.
