SNOMED CT Release Format and Availability

The International and Canadian Editions of SNOMED CT are published in the SNOMED International format known as RF2;

Implementers can browse SNOMED CT International and the Canadian Edition (English, French and specific Canadian reference sets) in the SNOMED International Browser;

Support for the mapping of local codes to SNOMED CT International and the Canadian Edition is made available via Apelon’s mapping solutions: TermWorks excel-based terminology mapping tool and TermManager web-based terminology mapping tool.  TermWorks and TermManager are updated as new release files are made available from Apelon.

  • SNOMED CT International is published on January 31 and July 31 of each calendar year.
  • The Canadian Edition is released March and September of each calendar year.  This is done to allow Infoway time to align any changes in the core release with content in the Canadian Edition. 

Definitions

Canadian Edition:

The Canadian Edition combines both the Canadian extension and the International release of SNOMED CT into one harmonized computable file.

Canadian Extensions: The Canadian Edition contains Edition contains three (3) distinct modules: the CA French extension and, the CA English Extension which contains , the Reference Sets and the SNOMED CT subsets (Refsets). The modules are dependent on the latest International version of SNOMED CTIt also includes the Common French extension.
