CA Core+ Testing Approach
The 2025 Projectathon is dedicated to supporting FHIR implementation projects across Canada. In support of interoperability and connected care, Canada Health Infoway and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) have been developing the Canadian Core for Data Interoperability (CACDI) and the CA Core+ FHIR Implementation Guide. CA Core+ Testing will focus on validating that vendor systems can generate FHIR resources conformant to the CA Core+ FHIR Implementation Guide, and process these FHIR resources without errors. Vendors will have an opportunity to test and demonstrate these capabilities:
- Producing FHIR resources conformant to CA Core+ – ensuring that the generated FHIR resources are structured in the expected format and that it contains the required information using the correct data types and valuesets, where specific valuesets are defined as required in the CA Core+ specifications (PS-CA v2.0.0 DFT-Ballot).
- Consuming FHIR resources conformant to CA Core+ - ensuring that the system(s) can process CA Core+ conformant FHIR resources without generating errors or exceptions.
Scope of Testing
For following list of test cases will be available for testing production and consumption of FHIR resources conformant to CA Core+:.
- Patient (mandatory elements only)
- Patient (with all able-to-populate elements)
- AllergyIntolerance (with all able-to-populate elements)
- Condition (with all able-to-populate elements)
- Immunization (with all able-to-populate elements)
- Medication (with all able-to-populate elements)
- MedicationRequest (with all able-to-populate elements)
- MedicationStatement (with all able-to-populate elements)
- Encounter (with all able-to-populate elements)
Most samples produced as part of the Canadian Patient Summary Projectathon track should be able to meet the able-to-populate constraints in the CA Core+ Implementation Guide.
To assist with preparation, a CA Core+ sample Test Data Set will be available.
Browser-based FHIR Matchbox will be available to be used for validation, loaded with the appropriate CA Core+ FHIR package.
