titleWhat is a Projectathon?

Projectathons are an important step and best-practice approach in testing and validation of a specification package, where implementers demonstrate live interoperability of solutions in conformance with pan-Canadian specifications. Test scenarios are managed using the Canadian version of the Gazelle interoperability testing platform. Projectathon 2025 will be dedicated to supporting Patient Summary implementation projects across Canada and is focused on testing the harmonized national and provincial interoperability Patient Summaries specifications (i.e., PS-CA, PS-ON, PS-AB). Testing will focus on the secure exchange, document format and content validation of FHIR patient summary documentsfocus on the Specifications listed in the Scope page.

titleIs the Projectathon a priority for Provinces and Territories?

Infoway, in collaboration with provinces and territories, invites vendors to participate in Projectathon 2025. All jurisdictions have contributed to the design and review of the pan-Canadian Patient Summary specification, with Alberta and Ontario leading implementation efforts. As a result of this close collaboration, the national and provincial Patient Summary specifications are harmonized and ready for validation. Other jurisdictions will leverage the learnings from the early implementation efforts of Alberta and Ontario.

  • PTs that are implementing pan-Canadian Roadmap specifications should send technical teams with sandbox environments to test solutions alongside vendors.
  • This is your opportunity to show the market that interoperability is supported at your PT level.
  • Encourage your eco-system vendors to also participate!

  • Vendors will benefit from a single conformance event to demonstrate pre-implementation readiness in multiple provinces, accelerating their readiness across the country.
  • Vendors should be able to build a single codebase for implementation across multiple provinces, supporting small differences through configuration.
  • Vendors that successfully demonstrate interoperability will enhance their brand and demonstrate market leadership. Detailed test results by vendor solution will be published in the Projectathon 2025 Final Report.
  • Vendors will have the opportunity to provide valuable feedback for continuous improvement of the Projectathon conformance process and tooling, as well as the specifications being tested.

titleWill vendors have to complete three rounds of testing for the national (PS-CA) and jurisdictional (PS-AB, PS-ON) specifications?

No, the PS-AB and PS-ON specifications are very closely aligned to the PS-CA and should be supported by minimal configuration of capability in the vendor systems. The test package will include test cases, test data and clinical scenarios to support validation of the PS-CA, PS-AB and PS-ON. The test cases will highlight where configuration is needed and test that it is applied properly.
